Bat House Blog - First Entry

Hello world! This is the first post on a blog designed to promote the hobby of bat detecting as well as bat education and awareness here in the United States. As popular as bat detecting is in European countries and other parts of the world it doesn't seem to be met with the same enthusiasm here in North America (yet).

The content posted on this blog will include details of bat detecting forays, reviews of bat detectors, techniques, bat house installation and monitoring, home exclusion experiences and much more. It may be slow starting but as spring rolls around here in Montana I hope to blog much more frequently.

For now I'll just say that I'm excited to receive my new Echo Meter EM3 from Wildlife Acoustics. My Bat Chirp II from Tony Messina will likey be the only ultrasound sequence I'll be monitoring for at least another few months. I'll be posting images of the EM3's and it's spectrogram display when I do finally start learning to use my new bat detetor.

In March there is a bat house building workshop I'll be hosting in conjunction with Montana FWP here in Helena, MT. Check with the Montana Wild Center in Helena for times and location. In May I'll be giving a presentation regarding backyard bat habitat and bat detecting for the local chapter of the Audubon Society. Stay tuned for summaries and details!
